Ramona Russell
is a natural promoter. Whether she's raving about a new website or
a cause close to her heart, Ramona is always promoting the things
she is passionate about. With a Bachelor's Degree in
Communications and years of experience in marketing, public
relations, fundraising and sales, Ramona used her talents to start
a company in her sister Liz's memory that promotes products from
companies whose proceeds directly give back to charitable
organizations.
Uptown Liz, created in
memory of Elizabeth “Liz” Overturf who died from breast cancer at
28 years old, was founded to promote products from companies whose
proceeds directly give back to charitable organizations. Through
their online database, you can search by cause or product, with
the knowledge that every time you link to a company and make a
purchase, you are making a difference. Their mission is to build a
bridge between compassionate consumers and concerned companies in
order to improve the world around them. They like to call it
"retail philanthropy" - the opportunity to purchase quality
products that benefit worthwhile causes.
A driven
professional, Ramona funnels her passion into her work as well as
marathon training and supporting charities that fight cancer after
losing her 28 year old sister, Liz, to breast cancer in 2006. In
June 2007, she was a first-time team captain with her mother for
the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Motivated by her
determination and desire to honor her sister's memory, Ramona and
her phenomenal team raised a record-breaking $22,000 - receiving
four awards including number one fundraising team - and obtained
front page coverage in the newspaper for Liz's story and the
event.

Marianne's Answers to the Real Beauty Questions
I am a Real Beauty because…
I am smart and compassionate, I love helping people, I appreciate
the beauty all around
me, and I love celebrating my life and those I love!
I am most beautiful when…
I feel I make a difference to those around me. I also feel
most beautiful when I am in
Paris walking hand-in-hand with my husband Daniel!
If I were not afraid I would…
Go skydiving.
Today I celebrated my beauty by…
Choosing not to buy any cosmetics full of toxins, but
instead chose to purchase a
beautiful organic and chemical-free skin lotion and lipstick (from
Dr. Hauschka!)
My advice to a young woman struggling with her body image and self
esteem is…
Replace those negative voices in your head with positive ones. Say
to yourself daily (and
write this out on your mirrors in dry-erase marker!): “I am
beautiful and gorgeous!” “I am
irresistible!” “I am sexy and smart!” - whatever resonates
for you. When you begin
saying something negative to yourself, immediately stop and say
one of these
affirmations instead! Also, take beautiful care of yourself by indulging
in the best organic
skin products you can, buy eating organically, and by intentionally
choosing not to fill
your body with lots of unnecessary and toxic icky chemicals! Know that my
doing this,
you are taking exquisite care of your beauty.

Dina Zeckhausen, PhD
In 1996, Dina
founded EDIN--the Eating Disorders Information Network.
EDIN’s School and Community Outreach initiatives have been honored
by the National Eating Disorders Association and serve as a model
for local, grassroots organizations around the country.
“EDIN gives
people tools to not only fight the “voice” of an eating disorder
inside their own heads, but to speak out and address these issues
in new creative ways. We are also recognizing the complex
interplay of psychological, genetic, family and peer influences
that contribute to the development of eating disorders, and that
eating disorders are not just about “vanity” or wanting to fit
into Size 0 jeans. But we still have a long way to go. It is our
hope that communities, schools and parents will adopt our program
model to effect systemic change.”
In 1996, Dr.
Zeckhausen wrote a play about a girl who struggles with an eating
disorder entitled “What’s Eating Katie?” which has been
performed locally and nationally by high school and college
students. She also wrote the first children’s book devoted to
preventing eating disorders called “Full
Mouse, Empty Mouse” (Magination Press, 2007).
Dina has been
featured in numerous National Press Outlets including; The
Today Show, The Insider, Entertainment Tonight, The Food Network
show “Cooking Thin”, Connecting with Kids, CNN and Headline News
and Shape Magazine.
Dina is
honored as a Real Beauty for her passion and tireless effort
working to reduce the stigma attached to eating disorders. Through
her programs, Dina has provided the tools to make a difference in
so many lives.
